What is laser dentistry?
A dental laser produces a narrow, focused beam of light energy that can gently remove or reshape soft tissue, reduce bacteria and seal small blood vessels as it works. Because it is so precise, it lets us treat only the tissue that needs it. Many patients notice that it is quieter than a drill, and that there is less bleeding and swelling afterwards.
Lasers are not a replacement for everyday dentistry. They are one tool among several, and your dentist will advise when a laser offers a real benefit over conventional treatment.
Laser gum treatment
Gum disease starts as plaque and tartar irritating the gums, which then bleed and swell. Left untreated, the gums can pull away from the teeth and the bone underneath can shrink. Laser gum treatment in Calicut, as elsewhere, works well alongside a thorough scaling and cleaning: the cleaning removes tartar from the root surfaces, and the laser helps reduce bacteria in deeper pockets and remove inflamed tissue. Daily brushing and flossing then keep the gums stable.
If your main concern is how much gum shows when you smile, rather than gum health, see gum contouring, which covers that treatment in detail.
Laser frenectomy in Kozhikode
The frenum is a small fold of tissue under the tongue and inside the upper lip. When it is short or tight, it can limit tongue movement, affect breastfeeding or speech, or pull on the gums. A laser frenectomy in Kozhikode releases this band in a few minutes, usually without stitches, and healing is often comfortable. We see babies, older children and adults for this, and our kids’ dentistry team keeps the visit calm for younger patients. Where speech or feeding is involved, we may suggest working with a speech therapist or lactation consultant as well.
Ulcers and sensitive teeth
A low-power laser setting can be used on painful mouth ulcers to ease discomfort and support healing. For sensitive teeth, the laser can help seal the tiny tubes in exposed dentine that carry cold and touch to the nerve, often alongside a desensitising varnish. Sensitivity has many causes, from worn enamel to gum recession or a cracked tooth, so we always find the cause before treating it.
