Braces treatment in Kozhikode

Braces (fixed orthodontics) straighten teeth and correct the bite using small brackets bonded to the teeth and a thin wire that guides them into place. We offer metal and tooth-coloured ceramic braces for children, teenagers and adults, planned from a 3D scan of your teeth.

Is it right for you?

Braces may help if you or your child notice any of these. An orthodontic assessment shows what is causing it and how it can be corrected.

  • Crowded, crooked or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Upper teeth that stick out, or lower teeth that sit in front
  • Teeth that do not meet properly when you bite
  • Difficulty cleaning between tightly crowded teeth

How it works4 steps

What happens during treatment

  1. 1

    Assess

We examine the teeth, jaws and bite, take X-rays and a 3D digital scan, and talk through what you would like to change.

  2. 2

    Plan

We explain the treatment plan, the type of braces that suits you and the likely duration.

  3. 3

    Fit the braces

Brackets are bonded to the teeth and the wire is placed. It takes about an hour and needs no anaesthesia.

  4. 4

    Adjust & retain

Regular visits adjust the wire. When the teeth are in place, the braces come off and retainers keep them there.

How braces work

Braces apply gentle, steady pressure that moves teeth through the bone over time. Each tooth has a small bracket bonded to its front surface, and a thin archwire runs through the brackets. As the wire is adjusted, it guides the teeth into their planned positions, and the bone around them reshapes to hold them there. Braces can close gaps, untangle crowding and correct how the upper and lower teeth meet, which matters for chewing and long-term wear as much as for looks.

Metal or ceramic braces

Metal braces are small stainless-steel brackets. They are strong, reliable and suit almost every type of case.

Ceramic braces work in the same way, but the brackets are tooth-coloured, so they blend in with your teeth. Many adults asking about ceramic braces in Kozhikode prefer them for work and social life. They need a little more care, as the brackets are more brittle and the clear elastics can pick up stains from tea, coffee and turmeric.

If you would rather have no visible brackets at all, Invisalign aligners may be an option, depending on your bite.

Braces for children and adults

For children, an early check helps us spot problems with how the jaws are growing or how the permanent teeth are coming through. Sometimes simple early treatment makes later braces easier or shorter. Our kids’ dentistry team keeps those first visits relaxed.

Teeth straightening in Calicut is not only for teenagers. Adults can have braces at any age, as long as the teeth and gums are healthy. Adult treatment sometimes takes a little longer, and we often coordinate it with crowns, implants or gum care so the final result works as a whole.

Living with braces

  • Cleaning: brush around each bracket and use interdental brushes daily. Regular biofilm therapy gently clears plaque around brackets that brushing can miss.
  • Food: avoid hard, sticky and chewy food, such as nuts, toffee and hard crusts, which can break brackets.
  • Appointments: keep your adjustment visits every four to eight weeks so treatment stays on track.
  • Problems: if a bracket comes loose or a wire pokes, message us and we will arrange a time to fix it.

If you are comparing options with an orthodontist in Kozhikode, ask how the retainer stage is planned. It matters as much as the braces themselves, so we plan it with you from the start.

Recovery

Teeth often feel sore for a few days after the braces are fitted and after each adjustment, and soft food and simple pain relief help. The brackets may rub the cheeks at first; orthodontic wax eases this until the mouth adjusts, usually within a week or two.

Braces questions

How long will I need to wear braces?

Most treatments take 12 to 24 months, though simple cases can be shorter and complex ones longer. How regularly you attend appointments and look after your braces also affects the time.

What is the right age for braces?

Many children are assessed around the age of seven, when early bite problems can be spotted. Most braces are fitted between about 11 and 14, once most permanent teeth have come through, but healthy teeth can be moved at any age.

Metal or ceramic braces, which should I choose?

Metal braces are robust and suit almost every case. Ceramic braces use tooth-coloured brackets that are less noticeable, but they are slightly larger and need more care to avoid chipping or staining. Your dentist will advise what suits your bite.

Invisalign vs braces, which is better for me?

Both can straighten teeth well. Braces are fixed and can handle a wider range of movements, while Invisalign aligners are removable and nearly invisible but depend on being worn 20–22 hours a day. We will explain which suits your teeth.

Do I need a retainer after braces?

Yes. Teeth naturally tend to drift back after braces come off. Wearing your retainer as advised is the most important way to keep your teeth straight.

Is a teeth clip the same as braces?

Usually, yes. Many people in Kozhikode call braces a "teeth clip" or "clip for teeth". The term can also mean a removable plate, which suits only simple tooth movements, so we check your teeth and explain which one fits your case.
