Full mouth rehabilitation in Kozhikode

Full mouth rehabilitation is a planned set of treatments that rebuilds most or all of the teeth in both jaws when many are worn, broken or missing. We combine crowns, bridges, implants and other care in one sequenced plan to restore your bite, comfort and appearance.

Is it right for you?

Full mouth rehabilitation may help if several of these describe your teeth. A detailed assessment will show what is needed.

  • Many teeth that are worn down, often from grinding or acid erosion
  • Several broken, heavily filled or root-canal-treated teeth
  • Several missing teeth, or a denture that no longer fits well
  • Difficulty chewing, or a bite that feels uneven or has collapsed
  • Jaw discomfort or headaches linked to how your teeth meet

Decay, infection and gum disease are treated first, with fillings, root canals or cleaning as needed.

What is full mouth rehabilitation?

When only one tooth is damaged, it can be repaired on its own. When many teeth are worn, broken or missing, fixing them one by one often leaves the bite uneven, and the repairs can wear or fail sooner. Full mouth rehabilitation, also called full mouth restoration, looks at all your teeth, your gums and the way your jaws meet, then plans the treatment as a whole.

The aim is a bite that is comfortable and even, teeth you can chew on with confidence, and a smile that looks natural. Many of the people we see for full mouth restoration in Calicut have put off treatment for years. A clear plan, taken one stage at a time, makes it manageable.

What treatment can include

Every plan is different, but it is usually built from familiar treatments:

  • Crowns and bridges to rebuild worn or broken teeth and replace gaps. We use zirconia and ceramic crowns.
  • Dental implants to replace missing teeth with fixed teeth, from a single tooth to a full arch.
  • Root canal treatment for teeth with infected nerves that can still be saved.
  • Tooth-coloured fillings, gum treatment and professional cleaning to make the mouth healthy before rebuilding.
  • A night guard if grinding has caused the wear, to protect the new teeth.

Full mouth dental implants

When most or all teeth in a jaw are missing or cannot be saved, full mouth dental implants are one option people in Kerala often ask about. Instead of one implant per tooth, a full arch of teeth can usually be held on a small number of implants, either as a fixed bridge or as a denture that clips firmly into place. Whether this suits you depends on your bone, your gums and your general health. Our dental implants page explains the process and aftercare in more detail.

How we plan your full mouth rehabilitation in Kozhikode

Planning is the most important part of the work. We record both jaws with a 3D digital intraoral scan, take X-rays, and study how your teeth meet when you bite and chew. From this we write a plan that sets out each treatment, the order we will do it in, and roughly how many visits it needs. We usually make the mouth healthy first, then test the new bite with temporary teeth before the final crowns or bridges are made, so you can get used to it and we can fine-tune it. Where appearance is also a priority, the plan can include elements of smile design.

Recovery

Recovery depends on which treatments are included. Crown and bridge visits usually need only a day or two of mild tenderness, while implant placement can mean a few days of swelling. Your new bite may feel different at first, and most people adjust within a few weeks.

Full mouth rehabilitation questions

What is full mouth rehabilitation?

It is the planned rebuilding of most or all of your teeth so they work together again. It usually combines several treatments, such as crowns, bridges, implants, fillings and root canals, in one co-ordinated plan rather than fixing teeth one at a time.

How long does full mouth rehabilitation take?

It depends on what is needed. A plan built on crowns and bridges may take a few weeks to a few months, while plans that include implants usually take several months because the bone needs time to heal.

Is full mouth rehabilitation the same as a smile makeover?

Not quite. A smile makeover focuses mainly on appearance, while full mouth rehabilitation focuses on restoring the health and function of your bite. The result often looks better too, but function comes first.

Can full mouth dental implants replace all my teeth?

Often, yes. A full arch of teeth can be supported on a small number of implants as a fixed bridge or an implant-supported denture. Your dentist will check your bone and general health to see which option suits you.

Will it be uncomfortable?

Each treatment is done under local anaesthesia, and the work is spread across several visits so no single appointment is too long. Mild tenderness after some visits is common and usually settles within a few days.
